MADIKWE HILLS PRIVATE GAME LODGE Madikwe Hills Safari Lodge has 8 luxurious glass-fronted suites set in amongst the boulders and overlooking the savannah. The décor is subtle, unusual and embraces the feel of Africa. The suites at Madikwe Hills Safari Lodge are designed with relaxation in mind with under floor heating, air conditioning and overhead fans for year round comfort and each with its own private veranda and plunge pool.
Madikwe Hills is beautifully situated in amongst large boulders in the koppies (rocky hills) on the Marico River in the malaria-free North-West Province of South Africa. Shaded by maroela and tamboti trees, Madikwe Hills Safari Lodge offers a chance to slow down to the heartbeat of Africa and to get acquainted with the wildlife that inhabits this spectacular game reserve. The savannah teems with game and the Big 5 make their presence known, while the endangered wild dog can be seen in its natural habitat.
Madikwe Hills was created in the early 1940’s by the National Parks Board, not only to conserve the fauna and flora of this magnificent area, but also to create employment opportunities for the local population in what was then one of the poorest provinces in South Africa.
To reach Madikwe Hills safari lodge from Gauteng, it is a short 45 minute flight from Johannesburg International Airport to Madikwe Hills, or a four hour drive via Zeerust through some very scenic country.
Fine evenings at Madikwe Hills Safari Lodge can be spent around the fire enjoying a meal in the rustic boma under the African stars and listening to the night sounds of Africa. Or fine cuisine with a wide selection of wines from the cellar may be enjoyed in the restaurant.
An experienced Game Ranger from Madikwe Hills Safari Lodge will accompany you on an early morning or late afternoon safari drive. The endangered wild dog and other wildlife can be viewed from open game-viewing vehicles with fantastic close-up photo opportunities all along the route. In the colder winter months, the early morning safari game drives leave an hour later and the afternoon safari drives leave earlier to take advantage of the wildlife viewing before it gets too dark. Another option of a day safari drive has been introduced, with guests staying out all day with only a brief return for lunch before heading out on safari again.
A fully equipped gym and a health spa at Madikwe Hills Safari Lodge take care of body and mind while Internet facilities keep families and friends in touch. |
